WEA Endorses Five Legislative Incumbent Republicans - Rep. Dan Griffey & Rep. Drew MacEwen

On Behalf of WEA’s More Conservative Members #21 WEA Endorses Five Legislative Incumbent Republicans 5.22.20 This is the second in a series on WEA PAC Republican Endorsements. Today, we will look at two 35th District Legislators: Rep. Drew MacEwen & Rep. Dan Griffey. Rep. Drew MacEwen Drew MacEwen was first elected to the House in 2012, and is currently serving as the Republican Caucus Assistant Floor Leader. He is also the ranking member of the House Commerce and Gaming Committee, and the Assistant Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee. MacEwen was the sole sponsor of EHB 2040, concerning nonhigh school districts and which WEA supported. MacEwen served in the United States Navy for six years, where he served in the submarine force and completed five strategic deterrent patrols on two different Ohio-class submarines, the USS Nevada and the USS Florida. He first developed a strong bond with western Washington after being stationed at Naval Base Kitsap. MacEwen is the founder and president of the investment firm Falcon Financial Inc., located in Union. He is also active in several community organizations, including Rotary, Love, Inc., Mason General Hospital Foundation, Kitsap Medical Society, and is a past president of the Shelton-Mason Chamber of Commerce. Rep. Dan Griffey Dan Griffey was elected to the House in 2014 and is currently Republican Caucus Whip. He serves on the House Human Services and Early Learning, Public Safety, and Local Government Committees. Griffey has been focused on standing up for victims and survivors of crime; ensuring our students receive a quality education that sets them on a path to meaningful employment; promoting living-wage jobs; protecting your individual, parental, and property rights; fighting for the needs of our youth, disabled, and elderly. Dan began his career of service as a volunteer firefighter at the age of 16 and, at the time, was one of the youngest EMTs in Washington state. He was hired as a professional firefighter for Central Mason in 1992, where he continues serving as a lieutenant. Dan has been married to his wife, Dinah, for more than 26 years. The Griffeys have three daughters, two sons-in-law, and three grandchildren. They are currently raising their grandson, William. ------------ Ken Mortland is a member of WEA-Retired, continuing a long career of activism in WEA/NEA. He is also a lifelong Republican and a member of Mainstream Republicans of WA Board.
