Wyman Proposes Secretary of State be Made a Non-partisan Office

On Behalf of WEA’s More Conservative Members #67 Sec. of State Kim Wyman Proposes Her Office Should Become a Non-partisan Office https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/editorials/kim-wyman-is-right-make-elections-leader-nonpartisan/ 9.4.20 In addition to chastising Kim Wyman’s opponents, the April 27 opinion piece lauded Wyman for suggesting the partisanship in elections management ought to be altered by making the office ‘non-partisan’. The Times reflects on WA State’s heritage of moderation and bi-partisanship at length and placed its stamp of approval on Wyman’s proposal. At this point, I don’t know if that would require a Constitutional Amendment or could be accomplished simply by statute. I suspect the former will be necessary, but we shall see. In any case, this is just another reason why I’m supporting Kim Wyman for another term as Sec. of State, despite the fact WEA did not endorse her this year. ------------ Ken Mortland is a member of WEA-Retired, continuing a long career of activism in WEA/NEA. He is also a lifelong Republican and a member of Mainstream Republicans of WA Board.
